天然氣是優質高效清潔的低碳能源。皖能集團堅持電氣并舉，控股成立安徽省天然氣開發股份有限公司，對全省天然氣產業規劃、氣量銜接、支干線管網建設等實施統一管理。作為政府授權特許從事天然氣建設和經營的企業，目前已建成支干線管網長度超過1500千米，管道供氣范圍基本覆蓋全省。省天然氣公司已于2017年初實現IPO上市，力爭2020年前打造“百億燃氣”，實現“氣化安徽”。

皖能集團大力推進能源結構調整，積極拓展新的清潔能源。準備投資300億元，建設淮南年產40億立方米煤制天然氣項目。同時，開展頁巖氣勘探工作，著力提高清潔能源在能源供給中的比重。
